Rare ‘Utö’ Chair by Axel Einar Hjorth

Sweden, 1930s

A rare and iconic piece of early Swedish modernism, the ‘Utö’ chair by Axel Einar Hjorth was designed in 1932 and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), one of Sweden’s most prestigious furniture makers.

Crafted in stained pine, this chair reflects Hjorth’s signature approach — a striking balance of robust, architectural lines and refined craftsmanship. The Utö collection was part of Hjorth’s influential work for NK during the early 1930s, blending functional design with primitive and rustic references, ahead of its time in both form and ethos.

This particular chair is in very good original vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age. It carries the patina of use and time, enhancing its presence as both a collectible and a sculptural statement in any considered interior.

Good original vintage condition. Light wear consistent with age, particularly on the seat and edges. Structurally sound.
