Pair of Rainer Daumiller Armchairs

Denmark, 1970s

Beautiful, sculptural pair of original, soaped pine armchairs by German born designer, Rainer Daumiller. Originally crafted in Denmark in 1977 by Hirtshals sawmill, the robust, playful and organic forms of his designs pay testament to a lifelong love of the natural world, and an intuitive material understanding. The original, chipped lacquer was stripped in Berlin and the chairs restored with a natural, beautiful finish bringing to life the richness and depth of the pine. They look absolutely beautiful and in excellent condition for original pieces. The only reason I am not selecting 'excellent' as the condition is as with all original vintage pieces slight imperfections must be expected. 2 available, price per chair Born in Germany in 1939, apprentice cabinet maker Daumiller's design talents blossomed when he was introduced to the philosophies of architect and philosopher Rudolph Steiner. He learnt how to form objects from seemingly random pieces of wood based on what each piece displayed to him. This approach shaped Daumiller's instinct for listening to materials and allowing their natural characteristics to shape the design. Daumiller moved to Denmark in 1959 where he gained an appreciation for new materials alongside a deepening of his carpentry skills.
