Antique Swedish Milking Stool

Sweden, 18th Century

Hand carved in the 18th century from pine in Sweden. This beautiful primitive folk stool was originally a milking stool. The back detail is an intricate example of Swedish folk craftsmanship. What is particularly special about the primitive pieces such as this is that each piece is completely unique. Crafted only one time, with it's own history and story to tell. The stool has recently been restored, the legs have been restablilsed. The beauty and rawness of the pine is visible on the legs whereas the backrest shows remnants of a deep red paint. This history of this stool is most obviously apparent on the seat rest which displays the imperfections that appear with time and use. This is a characterful antique piece. Imperfections and signs of use are to be expected.
